This burgundy velvet day gown is worn over a bustle pad and bustle petticoat. This creates the shelf-like protuberance at the back of the gown, trimmed with two buttons. Typical of a day gown, it has a high neck and long sleeves which are finished with satin cuffs. There is a diagonal fastening across the bodice and braided motif trims and embroidery down the bodice culminating in a satin bow feature on the left hip. The skirt has a wrap over front and its own under-skirt with a satin fronted panel.

Elizabeth was married to Michael Killeen, the youngest son of Patrick and Ann Killeen, who arrived in Australia with nine children and originally lived in Melbourne before moving to Queensland to settle in 1840.
