Date:
By  David O'Connell

Lucy wore this plum satin and brocade bustle day gown.

The bodice has a V neckline that is filled with cream lace forming a high collar.  The gown is trimmed with buttons, brocade, piping and at the back a pleated bow. The long sleeves feature pleats and double lace cuffs.

The skirt has a jacquard pattern and is a series of horizontal panels, with a ruched front panel. These panels meet at the back to create the bustle, as well as a small train. The hem has four rows of small horizontal pleats.

Lucy had this gown made by Harold James & Co Regent St, London, and wore it first to Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee (50 years) on 20th July 1887.
